Updates and More Do-overs
December 22, 2015
My darling husband persuaded me to take an overnight break and head north. We spent the night in Niagara Falls, Ontario in a room overlooking the falls. Yes, it was breathtaking and colorful with the lights and a true wonder of Creation. Go and experience it for yourself.
What I still do not completely understand is why it was for a time such a Mecca for honeymooners. If anybody knows, please tell me. Also why, in the name of sanity, would one want to go over those falls in a wooden barrel? Sky-diving sounds a whole lot safer. Then again, I’m not young enough to know everything.
I am on my annual end-of-the-year break now, foregoing two days pay for a year’s worth of sanity. Seriously, why is it teachers cannot be paid better than hedge fund managers and other assorted bloated billionaires. Teachers actually do make the future with concrete results in place of bogus speculation!
OK, one more kvetch and I will update and continue with the do-overs from last week: men who have to include any form of penis-reference in their speeches or public statements must be compensating for the smallness of their own member. I’m not saying small ones don’t work. Most of these speechifying sphincters, unfortunately, do reproduce, but there can’t be much to work with there if they have to keep referring to it.
Moving on. I have started moving more (the 30-day ab challenge will be the death of me or my belly yet!) and trying to look around and listen more. The planning part is a bad habit. That’s going to take time. A LOT of time.
For example, the seed catalogs have started arriving. I’m daydreaming of my spring garden, whenever it comes to planting (we have spring temperatures here at the close of the year, so I could be planting in February at this rate; a sarcastic ‘thanks’ to El Nino!). Also, I’ve completed the needlework project “due” before the 31st; this turns my thoughts to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCXerGxRfRc.
I’m still making lists of what I’d like to accomplish each week. But I’m working on mitigating the annoyance when somebody throws a non-schedule rock into the stream and diverts things.
As I said, it will take time.
A couple more thoughts on the do-over:
1.Acknowledge the anger and frustration and other negativities. Like a small child having a tantrum, I won’t be able to stop the honest expression of emotion by ignoring it. But I don’t have to indulge it, either. Give the little whiner its due, and move on.
2.Recognize that I am not the Oracle of all Knowledge, nor are my personal spiritual beliefs the One True Faith. And allow others to celebrate their own peace-loving beliefs without fear that mine will be diminished or obliterated. To quote a wiser mind: “Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson, Emerson in His Journals
Now if we could only get our so-called “leaders” to say and believe the same thing. It’s possible. Improbable, given the hot-air balloon-sized egos out there, but possible.
